PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS – A Bitou councillor and local youngsters got their hands dirty to help the residents of Kranshoek recently.
This came after concerns were raised by residents living in emergency housing in the area on the outskirts of Plettenberg Bay about water damming up in front of their homes.
Ward 7 Councillor Annelise Olivier acted quickly and came up immediately with an action plan to assist the residents, especially in light of the fast-approaching winter.
She managed to secure some donations from Robberg Quarry and Denron and then roped in local youngsters to solve the problem.
On 14 April the municipality's youth and sports development officer, Duncan Meyer, mobilised some young people to assist with work to deal with the waterlogged areas. This involved shovelling in soil and other material as well as laying paths to residents' homes.
"We appreciate the dedication of all involved in working towards our vision, which is 'to be the best together'. We also thank the two companies for their donations and the young people who volunteered to assist these families," the Bitou communications team said.
Councillor Annelise Olivier and local youths assisted Kranshoek residents with their waterlogged yards.
