KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna Community Police Forum (CPF) has called on the community to play their part in protecting children against any type of abuse during National Child Protection Week, which was celebrated from 30 May to 6 June this year.
National Child Protection Week is commemorated in the country annually to raise awareness of the rights of children.
Speaking to KPH, Knysna CPF chair Cheryl Britz said the aim of Child Protection Week is to create awareness of the need to protect children against abuse, neglect and any type of violence.
"Our Knysna community can do their part by speaking out if they see or hear something untoward by reporting it to the South African Police Services (Saps), community police or even the neighbourhood watch chairperson in their area, so that the information can be followed up and investigated immediately," she said.
Britz said community prevention, protection and parental responsibility remain key to ensure that vulnerable children feel safe in their homes, at school and even when they are out and about in the community, so that they do not suffer any type of ridicule or abuse.
