Commemorating the June 2017 fires

KNYSNA NEWS - The Knysna Fire & Rescue Department gathered on Wednesday 7 June to remember the town's unbreakable spirit in the face of the devastating 2017 fires.

The event marked the department and the municipality's official commemoration, paying homage to the lives lost and the heroic acts of the firefighters.

A platoon of firefighters marched from Gray Street, symbolising their commitment to protecting the community.

With reverence, they arrived at the municipal finance building, where a poignant programme unfolded, honouring the memory of the fires and those who passed tragically.

During this event of reflection Deputy Mayor Alberto Marbi, Municipal Manager Ombali Sebola, Councillors: Thando Matika, Mboneli Khumelwana, Neil Louw and Jason White alongside the Knysna community joined together to acknowledge the bravery and selflessness of the firefighters who risked their lives to save others.

The commemoration served as a reminder of the community's unity and resilience in the face of adversity.
