KNYSNA NEWS - Poor hygiene at home can also influence the spread of diseases and acting municipal manager Dr Michele Gratz is asking residents to make sure they apply health standards at their homes.
"According to the World Health Organisation a number of environmental factors influence the spread of communicable diseases that are prone to cause epidemics, including poor hygiene at home. Make sure that, in addition to the "golden rules" of e.g. washing hands and social distancing, you also disinfect frequently used areas in your house. You can still bring viruses like Covid-19 home with your shoes, handbags, packaging, etc."
She said residents should also consider outside areas and yards.
"Make sure old, unused items are disposed of, such as inoperable motor vehicles and trailers, unused furniture, strewn garbage and discarded bulk items.
"The municipality is responsible for vacant and open spaces including public amenities, and we make sure that these areas are cleaned on a daily basis. Like with the lockdown, we are all in this together and if all of us act responsibly, we can keep each other safe."
