KNYSNA NEWS - Students from Carmen's School of Dance once again participated in the annual Port Elizabeth Dance Festival, which took place from 25 August to 2 September at the Savoy Theatre.
The adjudicator was Janet Lindup, who is a former principal and soloist dancer with Capab, now called the Cape Town City Ballet.
A total of 26 dance items were entered from Carmen's studio, with children ranging from six years old and up.
These budding young dancing talents entered in both solo and ensemble dance items and (after many hours of hard work, practice and dedication, from both the students and the teacher), the following incredible results were achieved:
• 17 double gold awards (2 x 98%, 9 x 95%, 1 x 92% and 5 x 90%),
• five gold awards (2 x 89% and 3 x 85%) and four silver awards.
For the first time, Nadine du Plessis (13) entered the junior ballet championships and was awarded winner for this category, as well as overall 13-14 age category winner.
The whole eisteddfod was an extremely positive and rewarding experience for the students.
