PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Born in Africa, a successful non-profit organisation (NPO) supported by European "godparents" who provide funding and support for disadvantaged children from all Plett communities, is turning 20.
Starting from Monday 20 February, Plettenberg Bay will host about 80 Belgian visitors for a week of celebration to mark the 20 years that have seen thousands of students benefitting.
Since its establishment in 2003, Born in Africa, that has its headquarters in Belgium, has raised millions of rands for this unique programme.
Janet Harding, chairperson of Born in Africa Plettenberg Bay, said children from Grade 1 to tertiary level have been nurtured and mentored by the organisation's team.
"These children are offered unique opportunities to help them develop into rounded individuals. They are exposed to sport and recreation, life skills, trade education opportunities, music and drama and academic support," said Harding.
"Throughout the pandemic, our main focus was answering basic needs by providing food, clothing and masks. As time went by we shifted this to providing educational support through computer and homework classes."
Born in Africa has organised a fun-packed week where the visitors will get the opportunity to see what the organisation is all about, meet the children and staff and see different communities and schools.
