PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The Bitou Municipality left a lasting legacy in one of its communities when officials planted several trees in Kwanokuthula's phase 5.
The initiative was the brainchild of the integrated human settlements and parks departments.
Their aim, through implementing such programmes, is to try and prove that integrated human settlements is not just about developing houses and giving keys to beneficiaries.
"The beneficiaries have to be provided with houses in settlements that are conducive to their health and safety," said Acting Mayor Sandiso Gcabayi.
He commended the two departments for their efforts to improve the landscape of the recently completed phase 5 in Kwanokuthula.
"The planting of these trees on Heritage Day is also a way of living a lasting legacy in this community. Trees have a relatively long life span and a way of reminding one of the days gone by."
He said that, September being spring month and a time when flowers are blooming, the launch of the project came at an appropriate time.
