PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Bitou law enforcers went beyond the call of duty over the past week by not only rescuing a little boy from possible danger, but also recovering stolen items and arresting an alleged culprit.
Plettenberg Bay Crime Prevention Association (PBCPA) operations head Otto Olivier sung the praises of Bitou traffic officer Donee Jacobs, whose swift action led to the safe return of a young boy whom she spotted walking along the busy N2 in Plett last week.
"She rushed to the boy, scooped him up and carried him to safety," Olivier said.
He said the boy informed them that he decided to walk home after a sport event at his school was cancelled. He managed to slip through the school gates unnoticed. "He told the officer he knew where he lived and wasn't scared to walk home."
Jacobs carried the boy to the Wimpy off the N2 to keep him safe while she tried to get hold of his parents.
"As they entered the Wimpy, the little boy was recognised by friends of his parents, who called them immediately.
"The shocked couple rushed to their son's aid, relieved and thankful that due to the traffic officer's quick response, she prevented him from getting hurt on the N2."
Olivier also commended local police officers for their "hard work, professionalism, dedication and tenacity" after they meticulously followed up leads following a burglary last Tuesday.
The suspects broke into a property and got away with several power tools and other equipment. The officers managed to recover the stolen items and arrest a suspect.
