"They proceeded with a search of the premises and a vehicle parked at the entrance when they found 16 bundles of khat concealed under the seat of the vehicle. Police arrested a 40-year-old man on a charge of possession of drugs."
Regional arrests
On the same day, police in George conducted a roadblock on the N2. "During a search of a vehicle the police found 160 Mandrax tablets in the possession of an occupant. The members arrested the 41-year-old man on a charge of possession of drugs," Spies said.
In Still Bay, police were conducting patrols in Melkhoutfontein in the early hours of Sunday morning, 21 August, when they received information of illicit activities in the vicinity.
"The members swiftly responded and pounced on a residence. A search of the premises ensued and the police found 21 Mandrax tables, two quarters of Mandrax tablets, 18 sachets consisting tik and three bankies of dagga."
The police confiscated the drugs and arrested the 29-year-old occupant of the structure on a charge of dealing in drugs.
"Drugs remains a contributor to incidents of gender-based violence and femicide. The vigilance of police to remove these drugs from the streets would go a long way in safeguarding those affected by the scourge of gender-based violence and femicide," said Spies.
