KNYSNA NEWS - As the new school year approaches, the community comes together to ensure the little ones are equipped with everything they need for the first day.
Shadow Minister of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs Eleanore Bouw-Spies embarked on a mission to give stationery boxes made from recycled ice-cream containers to underprivileged students in the community, inspired by a similar project a few years prior.
"The primary objective of the stationery box project is to support children from economically challenged backgrounds who struggle to afford basic stationery supplies.
"In difficult times, when many parents are unemployed, procuring stationery items is an additional burden," says Bouw-Spies.
She emphasised the need for more contributions and invites the community to join hands in making a difference.
To make the project a success, Bouw-Spies urges the community to actively participate by donating empty two-litre ice-cream tubs that will serve as containers for the stationery boxes.
Additionally, the community can choose to sponsor a child by providing stationery items to fill the tubs.
Lee Vermaak, the owner of Creative Design Studio, has played a significant role in supporting the project by offering her business premises as a drop-off point for the empty tubs and also by printing motivational quotes for the boxes.
