KNYSNA NEWS - The Knysna municipality is ready for the influx of summer revellers who have already started arriving.
“The holiday season is a special time of the year, and we as the Knysna municipality are doing everything in our power to ensure that the season is as enjoyable as possible for all,” said municipal manager Kam Chetty.
Safety and security
Twenty-four extra point duty officers have been employed to assist with the regulation and control of traffic flow.
To aid the safety and security of visitors and residents, a further 45 law enforcement officials have been recruited and will be stationed across Greater Knysna.
The fire department will be activating all firefighters and reservists. “We have ensured that all emergency vehicles are serviced and ready to respond immediately to any emergency situation,” said Chetty.
Lifesavers
As the Sedgefield fire station now has its own new set of extrication equipment (jaws of life), Greater Knysna has two fully functional sets.
“Our firefighting team will be joining mayor Eleanore Bouw-Spies in welcoming visitors to Knysna where they will distribute literature pertaining to fire safety and other relevant issues.”
Lifesavers will be stationed at Swartvei, Sedgefield lagoon, Myoli beach, Buffalo Bay, Buffalo Bay Wild, Brenton beach, Knysna, Noetzie and the Karatara swimming pool throughout the season.
They will start patrolling these areas from 9 December and remain on duty until 15 January, from 10:00 until 18:00.
The Blue Flag beaches (Brenton and Buffalo Bay, will each be manned by four lifeguards daily from 1 December until 31 January between 09:00 and 18:00.
All other beaches will have three lifeguards on duty daily and at the Karatara swimming pool, two.
Please note that the first point of call for any lifeguards requiring medical and or other assistance will be the Knysna fire and rescue service (044 302 8911).
From there the control room will direct the emergency to the relevant response team.
