KNYSNA NEWS - Marc van Staden, NSRI Knysna deputy station commander, reported that on Wednesday 16 May, at about 12:30, NSRI Knysna duty crew were activated following reports of a boat capsized in the Knysna Heads.
“The sea rescue craft JT Rescuer IV and Jolen were launched and on arrival on the scene we found three men, from Sedgefield, two were sitting on the upturned hull of the 16 foot Hellcat craft and the skipper, with an injured shoulder, was holding on in between the two outboard motors of the casualty capsized craft.
“It appears that they were capsized by a wave while exiting through The Heads to go to sea.”
According to the NSRI the men were brought to shore aboard our sea rescue craft and the skipper has been transported to hospital by WC Government Health EMS ambulance and he is in a stable condition.
The remaining two men were not injured.
“We towed the casualty craft to the NSRI Knysna rescue base where we righted the boat and water was drained from the boat and the boat has been towed to the Knysna Marina and we assisted to recover the boat from the water,” said Van Staden.
