PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - More than 20 families have been left destitute after a fire swept through the Bossiesgif area in Plettenberg Bay during the early hours of Tuesday morning, 5 April.
Ten houses were gutted when the fire broke out just before 05:00.
The Bitou fire department responded to the scene swiftly and is said to have averted an even bigger crisis.
The local disaster management unit also provided assistance.
Acting Bitou Human Settlements Manager Fezile Maki says allegations that the fire may have started as a result of arson are being investigated.
Among those affected are children - one of whom was not only left without a home, but also a school uniform. The boy is 10 years old and a learner at Phakamisani Primary School.
Until other plans are put in place, the affected families are being housed at the Bossiesgif Hall (Bicycle Shed) and the municipality is working on providing building material to the families.
