“The suspects were arrested for various offences in Knysna,” said Sergeant Chris Spies, spokesperson for the Knysna Police.
According to Spies, the focus of the operation included drugs, illegal firearms, stolen goods and many other priority crimes in the Knysna precinct. “This operation involved various units in the police, immigration officials from the Department of Home Affairs and local traffic officials. It included a stop-and-search operation at the Knysna Taxi Rank in Nelson Street, visits to shops, searching of stalls and vehicle check-points on the Main Street of Knysna. A number of drug houses were also searched.”
Spies said they arrested one suspect for dealing in drugs, one for possession of Tik, five for outstanding warrants of arrest and eleven illegal immigrants. Small amounts of Tik and dagga were also confiscated. A total of 11 fines with a value of R6 900 were issued to motorists for traffic related offences.
The suspects appeared in the Knysna Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, August 27.
