KNYSNA NEWS - A small number of special votes were cast by midday on Tuesday at three voting stations in Knysna.
Only about four votes were registered at the station at Chris Nissen Primary School and about three at the station at the Methodist Church, both in Ward 4, according to officials from two political parties.
The voting station at Knysna's Town Hall was slightly busier, with about eight votes being cast by that time, a party official said.
One of the party officials in Ward 4 said approximately 30 home visits were made from both voting stations on Monday to register the votes of infirm residents, and about 20 more from the stations were set to take place on Tuesday afternoon.
About 30 home visits had been made from the station at Masifunde Library in ward six on Monday.
The official said many residents from the area who qualified for a special vote would not take up the option as they wanted to vote on Wednesday, 'to experience the vibe' on main voting day.
Jackie Moore (90), who was assisted by her daughter Mylene Ife, arrived to cast a special vote on Tuesday.
Jackie was born in Mauritius and lived there until 1946, when she relocated to South Africa.
She worked for a bank in Durban and Johannesburg before retiring to Knysna 27 years ago: 'I'm voting for the best in the country - and for the future generation. You want to leave the country in good hands. It's important for the new generation to have electricity and water.'
