ELECTION NEWS - The Democratic Alliance (DA) has released its list of candidates for the National Assembly and provincial legislatures ahead of the 2019 general elections.
Several of the DA East region stalwarts have made it into electable positions on the final list.
Regional manager of the DA East region in the Western Cape, Jaco Londt, said he is delighted that, in comparison to 2014, the East region now is much better represented on the overall list.
"I believe the East Region candidates represent tremendous, strong leadership characteristics that will serve the region and the party well."
He explained that 59.46% of the DA provincial vote in 2014 resulted in 26 seats at national level, four seats in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) and 26 seats at the provincial parliament level. He expressed confidence that this figure would be exceeded in the forthcoming elections.

Londt said by-elections would obviously follow the successful placing of current local government leaders in national or provincial positions. "This will obviously create opportunities at a local level for the next generation of leaders to take up leadership positions at a local level."
