KNYSNA | BITOU NEWS - While the country is preparing for the local government elections next Monday, 1 November, the vaccine roll-out among adolescents aged 12 to 17 is gaining momentum.
The national Department of Health began administering vaccines to adolescents between the ages of 12 and 17 on Wednesday 20 October. By Friday 22 October, after only three days, 35 739 children in this age group were vaccinated.
By yesterday, 25 October, there has been 28 742 vaccine registrations in the new age group in the Western Cape. This brings the total number of registrations in the province to 2 392 908, 42,63% of the eligible population.
In the Garden Route, 1 392 children between 12 and 17 had registered for their vaccine, adding to the total of 214 736 registered individuals in the district. This represents 43,38% of the eligible population.
Knysna meanwhile has seen a total of 30 740 registrations and 234 in the new age group. The sub-district has seen 53,55% of the eligible population register.
In Bitou there has been a total of 18 180 registrations, of which 102 belong to the 12-17-year-old age group. In Bitou 42,78% of the eligible population has registered.

- Plettenberg Bay Town Clinic – Thursday 28 October and Friday 29 October
