KNYSNA | PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Once again the Covid-19 statistics in Knysna and Bitou represent a rather mixed bag this week, with Bitou dropping in both active and new cases.
Registrations to receive the Covid-19 vaccine continue to rise as the province nears three million. As at Monday 14 March the Western Cape has seen 2 952 703 registrations for the vaccine, 52,61% of the eligible population.
In the Garden Route a total of 257 809 people have registered for the vaccine, 52,08% of the eligible population.
In Knysna there has been a total of 36 495 vaccine registrations, which is 63,57% of the eligible population. Bitou has seen a total of 22 445 vaccine registrations, 52,82% of the eligible population.
As at Tuesday 15 March, Knysna had recorded a total of 9 775 cases of Covid-19, of which 9 434 have recovered, 286 have died, and 55 are active cases.
The number of new cases in the past week, 25, represents a decrease of 3,85% (-1) in new cases from the week before.
The active cases increased though, rising by 5,77% (+3), with the number the highest since 1 February. The recovery rate has dropped to 96,51% (96,52% last week) while the mortality rate is 2,9%.

In Bitou as at Tuesday, 5 687 Covid-19 cases had been recorded, with 5 522 having recovered, 144 having died, and 21 being active cases.
This shows three new cases recorded between 8 and 15 March, a decrease of 85% (-17).
The active cases fell by 22,22% (-6) this week. The recovery rate is now 97,1% (96,99% last week), and the mortality rate is 2,5%. The deaths have stayed the same this week.
