KNYSNA | BITOU NEWS - The number of active and new Covid-19 cases in Knysna has increased this week, while the numbers in Bitou dropped.
Registrations to receive the Covid-19 vaccine continue to rise as the province nears the three million mark.
As at Monday 28 February the Western Cape has seen 2 931 877 registrations for the Covid-19 vaccine, 52,24% of the eligible population.
In the Garden Route a total of 256 666 people have registered for the vaccine, 51,84% of the eligible population. In Knysna there has been a total of 36 368 vaccine registrations, which is 63,35% of the eligible population. Bitou has seen a total of 22 345 vaccine registrations, 52,58% of the eligible population.
As at Tuesday 1 March, Knysna had recorded a total of 9 724 cases of Covid-19, of which 9 390 have recovered, 287 have died, and 47 are active cases. The number of new cases in the past week, 32, represents an increase of 100% (+16) in new cases from the week before.
The active cases increased too, rising by 20,51% (+8), with the number the highest in a month. The recovery rate has dropped to 96,57% (96,63% last week) while the mortality rate is 3%. The deaths stand on 287 this week.
In Bitou as at Tuesday, 5 664 Covid-19 cases had been recorded, with 5 496 having recovered, 143 having died, and 25 being active cases. This shows 11 new cases recorded between 22 February and 1 March, a decrease of 8,33%% (-1).
The active cases fell by 34,21% (-13) this week, and are the lowest since 30 November 2021. The recovery rate is now 97,03% (96,80% last week), and the mortality rate is 2,5%. The deaths have remained the same for five weeks in a row.
