KNYSNA | BITOU NEWS - The number of active Covid-19 cases in Knysna has decreased for the second week, while Bitou's number has increased after remaining the same the previous week.
Registrations to receive the Covid-19 vaccine in the Western Cape continue to edge ever closer to the three-million mark.
As at Monday 4 April the Western Cape has seen 2 973 336 registrations, 52,98% of the eligible population.
In the Garden Route a total of 259 509 people have registered for the vaccine, 52,42% of the eligible population.
In Knysna there has been a total of 36 700 vaccine registrations, which is 63,93% of the eligible population. Bitou has seen a total of 22 576 vaccine registrations, 53,13% of the eligible population.
To make it easier for surrounding residents to get their Covid-19 vaccines, the Western Cape Department of Health will be holding a Vooma Vaccination Drive at the Hornlee Clinic in Knysna on Saturday 9 April between 08:30 and 13:00.
As at Tuesday 5 April, Knysna had recorded a total of 9 847 cases of Covid-19, of which 9 516 have recovered, 289 have died, and 42 are active cases.
The number of new cases in the past week, 20, is a decrease of 16,67% (-4) in new cases from the week before.
The active cases also decreased this week, falling by 17,65% (-9). The recovery rate has risen ever so slightly, up to 96,64% (96,56% last week). The deaths have increased by two to 289.

In Bitou as at Tuesday, 5 727 Covid-19 cases had been recorded, with 5 554 having recovered, 144 having died, and 29 being active cases.
This shows 16 new cases recorded between 29 March and 5 April, a very small increase of 6,67% (+1).
The active cases have risen by 52,63% (+10) this week, the second-largest rise in Bitou this year. The recovery rate decreased and is now 96,98% (97,15% last week), and the mortality rate is 2,5%.
The deaths have stayed the same for the fourth week in a row.
