KNYSNA | BITOU NEWS - Despite a slight increase in new cases, the number of Covid-19 cases remain low in Bitou as well as in Knysna.
Registrations to receive the Covid-19 vaccine continue to rise as Covid-19 numbers fall. As at Monday 31 January the Western Cape has seen 2 873 073 registrations for the vaccine, 51,19% of the eligible population.
In the Garden Route a total of 253 151 people have registered for the vaccine, 51,13% of the eligible population.
In Knysna there has been a total of 35 997 vaccine registrations, which is 62,70% of the eligible population. Bitou has seen a total of 22 043 vaccine registrations, 51,87% of the eligible population.
As at Tuesday 1 February, Knysna had recorded a total of 9 644 cases of Covid-19, of which 9 272 have recovered, 283 have died, and 89 are active cases. The number of new cases in the past week, 32, represents a decrease of 26,19% (-11) in new cases from the week before.
The active cases also decreased, falling by 41,45% (-63), with the number still the lowest since 7 December 2021. The recovery rate has climbed to 96,14% (95,48% last week) while the mortality rate is 2,9%. The deaths increased slightly, climbing by one.
In Bitou as at Wednesday, 5 586 Covid-19 cases had been recorded, with 5 373 having recovered, 143 having died, and 70 being active cases. This shows 48 new cases recorded between 25 January and 1 February, an increase of 29,73% (+11).
The active cases fell by 13,58% (-11) this week - also the lowest since 7 December 2021. The recovery rate is now 96,19% (95,96% last week), and the mortality rate is 2,6%. After a slight increase last week, the deaths have remained the same.
