KNYSNA | PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - This week, for the first time this year, both Knysna and Bitou have seen increases in active cases of Covid-19.
Registrations to receive the Covid-19 vaccine continue to rise as the province nears three million registrations. As at Monday 7 March the Western Cape has seen 2 943 195 registrations for the Covid-19 vaccine, 52,44% of the eligible population.
In the Garden Route a total of 257 342 people have registered for the vaccine, 51,98% of the eligible population.
In Knysna there has been a total of 36 443 vaccine registrations, which is 63,48% of the eligible population. Bitou has seen a total of 22 403 vaccine registrations, 52,72% of the eligible population.
As at Tuesday 8 March, Knysna had recorded a total of 9 750 cases of Covid-19, of which 9 411 have recovered, 287 have died, and 52 are active cases. The number of new cases in the past week, 26, represents a decrease of 18,75% (-6) in new cases from the week before.
The active cases increased though, rising by 10,64% (+5), with the number the highest in exactly a month. The recovery rate has dropped to 96,52% (96,57% last week) while the mortality rate is 2,9%. The deaths remained on 287 this week.

In Bitou as at Tuesday, 5 684 Covid-19 cases had been recorded, with 5 513 having recovered, 144 having died, and 27 being active cases. This shows 20 new cases recorded between 1 and 8 March, an increase of 81,82% (+9).
The active cases rose by 8% (+2) this week. The recovery rate is now 96,99% (97,03% last week), and the mortality rate is 2,5%. The deaths have increased for the first time in six weeks.
