KNYSNA | BITOU NEWS - The sharp decline in active cases has continued in both Knysna and Bitou this week while the latter saw its new cases rise by a very small margin.
With the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic having officially come and gone in South Africa and the Western Cape, vaccination efforts continue.
Last weekend's national Vooma Vaccination Weekend campaign saw 59 429 vaccines administered in the Western Cape, of which 1 104 were administered in the Garden Route.
The number of registrations continues to rise too. In Knysna there has been a total of 28 477 registrations for the vaccine (56,24% of the eligible population) as at Tuesday 5 October, while Bitou has seen 16 797 registrations (44,57% of eligible people).
As at Tuesday 5 October, Knysna had recorded a total of 8 029 cases of Covid-19, of which 7 690 have recovered, 254 have died, and 85 are active cases. This indicates a total of 36 new cases between 28 September and 5 October, which amounts to a 23,40% decrease (-11) from the previous week.
The active cases dropped by 37,5% (-51) this week, and is on the lowest number since 22 June.
In Bitou as at Tuesday, 4 312 Covid-19 cases had been recorded, with 4 100 having recovered, 131 having died, and 81 being active cases.
This shows a total of 49 new cases recorded between 28 September and 5 October, rising by 8,88% (+4) from last week. With the active cases dropping by 40,44% (-69) this week, it is the lowest number since 29 June for Bitou.
