BUSINESS NEWS - Helen Melon Properties, leading independent property experts in Plettenberg Bay, is set to hold a homeowners event aimed at opening the eyes of property owners buying and selling residential property.
It will be held at the Plettenberg Bay Golf and Country Club on Tuesday 26 September and the proceeds of the R100 donation to attend the event will go to Hospice in Plett, said Helen Ward, principal of Helen Melon Properties.
The event will be addressed by renowned property expert Rob McKee, CEO of Gail Gavrill Property Consultants, who has over 37 years of experience in selling as well as training.
McKee, who holds a BA from Unisa, MPRE, PPRE, will unlock the intricacies of all the relevant legislation, processes and pitfalls associated with buying and selling residential property today. "His knowledge is your power," said Ward.
His talk is titled "Thinking of buying or selling? What you ought to know". McKee says, "Stress is sadly a reality for most of us in South Africa and buying or selling property most certainly compounds our stress levels!"
The purpose of the presentation is to "de-stress" anyone thinking of buying and selling. As the saying goes: knowledge is power.
"Having been in the industry for just over 40 years, I think I am reasonably well placed to offer guidance regarding the pitfalls that buyers and sellers face, particularly as the legal processes have escalated dramatically from the days when an offer to purchase document was a simple one-page document," says McKee.
McKee will be touching on the current legal acts impacting the industry and to what extent it is essential for buyers and sellers to at least have a glimmer of insight into them.
Additional topics such as selecting an agency/agent, determining the current market value of a property, types of mandates, sound reasons for selling, the salient clauses in the offer to purchase document, tips for buyers and sellers, conveyancing, sectional title terminology, who pays for what, marketing methods, pricing to sell, capital gains tax and much more will be covered.
"I have ingrained into agents the following quotation over the years in most of my practical and academic lectures - and it still holds true still today: the real estate industry is the industry in which it takes the longest to develop an enviable reputation and the industry in which you can lose it the quickest!" says McKee.
