KNYSNA BUSINESS NEWS - Allsound Security in Knysna alone had to deal with 24 property-related crime complaints and assisted in 55 other complaints, such as suspicious persons and domestic violence, in the short time between April 30 and May 6.
In light of these property-related crimes including burglaries and numerous complaints of, for example, theft out of motor vehicle, trespassing, theft and possession of stolen property, Allsound's communication manager, Ashley Boetius gave some tips on how to secure your property before leaving it:
- Ensure your alarm system is in good working order prior to your departure.
- If possible, arrange for a reputable house sitter.
- Demonstrate the use of the alarm to ensure your house sitter fully utilises the security functions.
- If your house will be vacant, draw curtains and blinds and leave a few internal lights on.
- Switch external motion detector lights on.
- Leave your house key with a trusted friend or neighbour or keyholder who can access your home in an emergency situation.
- Notify your alarm company of your away information and ensure the relevant contact information is updated.
- Inform your security company which persons (if any) are authorised to access your home in your absence.
- Pack all valuables out of sight.
- Close all windows and lock the doors.
