KNYSNA NEWS - This past Saturday and Sunday, 5 and 6 November, saw a record turnout for the Leisure Isle Festival, proving once again that absence makes the heart grow fonder.
After a three-year hiatus, residents and holidaymakers were treated to a kaleidoscope of creators, crafters and charities, all in the interest of raising money for local charities.
With 108 stalls donating 10% of their sales towards local charities, the Leisure Isle Festival raised more in donations than any previous year.
This year's proceeds will be given to an astounding nine charities: e'Pap, Kaws, Vermont Old Age Home, iThemba, Revive Knysna, Knysna Sedgefield Hospice, Loeriehof Old Age Home, TS Knysna Sea Cadets and Steenbok Nature Reserve.
But, local charities weren't the only winners. The Leisure Isle Festival also provided local crafters and businesses a unique opportunity to showcase their creations in a jovial and spirited atmosphere.
"We're keen to grow our festival so we can provide opportunities for other creatives while also supporting our local community here in Knysna," said Casaundra Cumberlege of the organising committee.
"We're grateful to all our sponsors, volunteers and the wonderful neighbours of Leisure Isle. We wouldn't have been as successful without their backing. A very special thank you, once again, to our faithful and generous sponsor, Sotheby's."
e'Pap children wander about the walkways between the stalls.
Festivalgoers got to interact with the various stallholders over the course of the two days.
