PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - With the arrival of the school holidays, Plettenberg Bay has started to see an influx of visitors and they have a lot to look forward to, as the coastal holiday town is set to host an array of entertainments.
Regatta
Events are set to kick off on a colourful note with the annual Robberg Fine Foods Classic Beach Regatta set to take place from Hobie Beach from 17 to 19 December.
Traditionally sailors come from across South Africa - among them a number of Hobie national and world champions. The sight of a fleet of beautiful, multi-coloured sails in the bay has become an integral part of Plett's festive season.
Summer Sensations
Plett's Summer Sensations is expected to light up the nightlife with a series of performances. It will kick off on 17 December with jazzy tunes and afro-pop, followed by poetry, hip hop and deep house on 19 December. A "ladies' night" follows on the 24th with all performers being women.
On 30 December there will be fusion of Amapiano, country music, Is'ghubu and others. The events will be hosted by the N2 Lounge in Kwanokuthula between 16:00 and 23:00 on the respective dates.
Safe sips
The renowned Six Dogs Gin will host a complimentary gin tasting at Six Dogs Blue Light at Beau de Jour at Bromon in the Crags on 18 December. The tastings will take place between 11:00 and 15:00.
Barrington's will once again present its annual wine festival on 19 December between 13:00 and 18:00. Tastings, live jazz and food from Barrington's restaurant will be on the menu.
Into the arts
The renowned South African band Watershed will be performing at Bruges Belgian Beer Bistro on 19 December and the event includes a welcome Stella Artois or Coronita Cocktail and a three-course dinner.
On 20 and 21 December, Down to Earth Restau-rant is set to host Trueblue Makers, an exclusive designer exhibition-style event that will showcase the work of 20 hand-picked designers and artisans from across the country.
Mel's Place in Keurbooms is going to be a hive of activity with 21 different shows and even more artists slated to perform. The lineup includes Jack Parow (16 December), Springbok Nude Girls (19 December),
South African pop rock band Watershed will be entertaining Plett this festive season.

GoodLuck is back in town with their annual Get Lucky Summer series. They have three shows - 19, 26, and 31 December - and will feature various artists such as Just Jinger, Veranda Panda and Canadian duo Neon Dreams.

Get out there
For the more active, the Sabrina Love Challenge will take place on 26 and 30 December in the private estates of Kurland and neighbouring MTO forests. A fundraiser for the Sabrina Love Foundation, it will offer trail running and mountain biking in various distances.
Due to Covid-19 regulations, it will be a self-timed event and athletes can take on their desired routes as many times as they like. After the race, they have to load their details onto a leader board. The Kids of Steel event, specifically designed for youngsters, will also be back.
On 28 December between 08:00 and 10:00, the first leg of the action-packed Trans Agulhas Inflatable Boat Challenge will depart from Hobie Beach. Celebrating its 33rd anniversary, the event will see more than 30 inflatable boats visit beaches along the coast between Nature's Valley and Gordon's Bay, where the race will finish on 31 December.
