This was evident at the final Knysna Idol concert on Saturday, November 6 at the Knysna Primary School hall.
After super performances from each of the finalists, the winner of the idols competition was announced to the excited participants and audience. The judges announced Silakhe Oyo, a Heatherhill learner, as Knysna’s very own Idol.
The young Idol’s journey continues as she has been given the opportunity to record an album of her own. It is still unknown what genre she will choose and if it will feature be her very own lyrics.
Alberto Marbi, chairman of the Greater Knysna Cultural Forum, said that the entire competition was challenging but worthwhile.
"You know, if I think of the rocky path, I try to visualise how far we have come and where we are going with this development process. I realise how tremendously talented the youths of Knysna are. I am very proud to have played a part in the development process of these contestants’ journey," says Marbi.
It was also announced that the nine finalists and Oyo will collaborate on a special Christmas recording, which will hopefully be on the shelves before Christmas.
The Knysna Idol talent search will take place again next year. All aspiring musicians and singers can already start preparing for the exciting competition, which may just result in a talented local youth living his or her dream.
The Greater Knysna Cultural Forum would like to gratefully thank Peace of Eden Recording Studio’s managing director, Howard Butcher, Knysna Municipality, adjudicators, Trinity Studio’s team, technical sound team and guest artists, as well as Knysna Executive Mayor Eleanore Bouw-Spies.
