Legg was born in East London in 1932. He moved to Johannesburg and spent three years at Technical Art College. He was transferred to Cape Town and worked for 20 years as a commercial artist in advertising and packaging. However, this did not satisfy his need to create art, and for two years he spent his weekends painting and developing his water-colour technique.
In 1974 he became a full-time watercolourist, and since then has had 64 one-man exhibitions in most of the country’s major centres, as well as two exhibitions in London with the South African Water-Colour Society.
Gordon's paintings mostly depict wide open spaces. Recently he has ventured into using acrylics as a medium and is enjoying the experience.
The exhibition will conclude on Saturday, February 5.
