KNYSNA NEWS - The Knysna Arts Festival is to be held next year from 21 to 24 February, with most events happening at the main venue, the Premier Hotel off George Rex Drive.
This is the period leading up to the Celtic Festival, scheduled for that same weekend, so to those from further afield, why not plan a trip to Knysna, and enjoy the very best of what Knysna has to offer in terms of music, theatre, and fine art, and then enjoy the pipe bands and Blacksmith at Loerie Park during their concert on the 24th.
The Arts Festival has its opening gala evening on the Wednesday (21 February) with a variety show at the Premier Hotel auditorium.
This is usually a sellout.
You can view the artwork on display of some 50 local and national artists at the venue every day from 9:00 to late while enjoying a nibble and something to drink at the venue.
Paintings, sculptures, ceramics, and bronzes will all make up a display of brilliance.
On the Thursday, you might like to enjoy the Potpourri Evening which will feature light classical singers and instrumentalists of quality and fun.
Friday will be a surprise theatrical evening, and Saturday morning will see a repeat of the incredibly successful “Art of Cloth”.
You might also like to actively participate in, or just listen to the numerous art workshops and demonstrations given at no charge by the enthusiastic artists each morning and afternoon at the hotel.
A special room is set aside for this.
Something for everyone
Then there is our series of Fringe lectures and field trips organised to enthral you by making use of our local talent in Knysna.
Talks on the development of commercial bulbs, Knysna sea horse, artisan bread making, and drones might appeal – you take your pick, all at no charge.
An exhibition of classic cars, a trip to the estuary? These will also be available.
Add to all this the art route. This is a map of Knysna and environs on which is indicated a whole host of artists who are part of the art route.

You can choose who you wish to visit and then embark on a trip to their venue to see their works, or enjoy their workshop or demonstration.
Numerous professional artists are on this route. A description is given in a brochure that will be provided so visitors know what to expect and can plan their outing accordingly.
Artists who would still like to participate in the festival must note that late entries will be accepted until end October but a penalty is payable.
Entry forms are available from the Knysna Tourism office, or from wdevoogt@gmail.com.
If you want a very special all-embracing cultural experience in beautiful Knysna join us from 21 to 24 February next year.
Feast on the displays, listen or participate in demos or talks, marvel at the music and shows, catch your breath at the sight of massed pipe bands marching through the Main Road, and then enjoy the Celtic Concert at Loerie Park afterwards.
