GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - George-based Carpe Musicam! Orchestra and Choir are set to cause a musical conflagration in George and Knysna on 15 and 16 March respectively with their new show – Fantasia 2019.
This must-see event, which has a decidedly Celtic and Gaelic flavour, will have almost 100 performers taking to the stage to sing, play and dance their way through about 90 minutes of music, ranging from Johann Pachelbel’s Celtic Canon in D to Sir Paul McCartney’s We All Stand Together.
Local diva-ettes - Marlene Tagliavini, Heather Waters, Tanja Storm and Bea Crawford - will each have a solo spot featuring music by Prince and Sting as well as more traditional items. Making his live performance debut is the unique Steve Prophet, who will be doubling as Master of Ceremonies.
Also present will be the Cape Field Artillery Pipes and Drums, a quartet of Highland dancers from the Albion School of Highland Dance in Cape Town, as well as Aidan Hyland, who represented South Africa at the 2014 World Irish Dance Championships in London.
The finale which features all of the above participants is pure sock-blowing-off material and includes the theme from The Last of the Mohicans and Riverdance, with Highland and Irish Dancers, pipes and drums, as well as a 44-voice choir and 35-piece orchestra. Miss it at your peril.
Tickets are priced at R100 for adults, and under 18s enter free of charge. The German Shop at 45 Waterfront Drive in Knysna will be selling tickets for this show, which will be at the Dutch Reformed Church Hall in Fichat Street. All ticket sales are cash only. Tickets will also be available at the door on the night. For more information or EFT details, contact Elsabe (073 857 2952).
