KNYSNA SPORT NEWS - Aimee Canny has bagged herself yet another South African record, this time in the 100m individual medley (IM) race at the SA Short Course Championships, following on from earning silver in the 100m freestyle earlier in the day.
Aimee had secured a bronze in the 400m freestyle in a time of 4:09.90 on day one of the competition on Saturday, before following it up with a gold in the 200m freestyle on Sunday in a time of 1:56:78, narrowly missing out on a World Short Course Championships qualifying time.
The weekend was just the beginning of Aimee's success at the competition, and on Monday she shone in the pool again.
Her first item for the day yesterday, 26 October, was the 100m freestyle. She qualified first with the fastest time in the heats, edging out Erin Gallagher by half a second. It would, however, be Erin that ended up taking gold in the final thanks to a time of 53:90, only 0.37 seconds ahead of Aimee’s time of 54:27.
Aimee's day wasn't over though, as she was still to take on the 100m IM. Determined as ever, Aimee fought hard and finished in a time of 1:00:31 to earn her second gold of the competition. This also secured her first senior and first short-course SA record, as well as a qualifying time for the World Short Course Championships.
Aimee will be taking part in the 50m freestyle event today, the final day of competition.
