In unpleasant fishing conditions, Border, Eastern Province, South Cape and Western Province, on 11 boats with 22 anglers, took to the waters. The provincial teams consisted of senior and veteran anglers.
The competition was determined on a 'hea-viest bag' principle and instead of targeting the smaller species, which were easier to get on board with 4kg line in the rough waters, most anglers opted for the larger specimens, hence losing a lot of fish the first day.
All catches were measured on board, photographed and released afterwards.
During the course of the tournament, some excellent catches were recorded, with Kevin Comley (EP) - Black Mussel Cracker 8.1kg, Frans Jardin (WP) - Spearnose Skate 17.48kg and Johan Knoetze (EP) with the heaviest bag on any one day, are some of the results obtained.
The results for the seniors were as follows:
1. Ian Barnard (SC A) 41 points; 2. Frans van Zyl (SC B) 38 points; 3. Kevin Comley (EP) 33 points.
Overall Veteran (Over 50 years) results were as follows:
1. Johan Gouws (EP B) 15 points; 2. Johan Knoetze (EP B) 13 points; 3. Naas Marais (EP A) 12 points.
The best team placing in the senior division went to Eastern Province A, with South Cape A in second and Border A in third place, whilst the first team placing in the veterans went to Eas-tern Province B.
The overall results on the combined ranking list for senior and veteran anglers were as follows:
Johan Knoetze (EP B), Ian Barnard (SC A), Johan Gouws (EP B) and Frans van Zyl (SC B).
At the prize-giving ceremony, an All Coastal Team was announced to participate in the SA Nationals during February 2015 in Mossel Bay, and the anglers selected are:
Veterans: Johan Gouws (EP) and Frans Jardin (WP).
Seniors: Ian Barnard (SC), Kevin Comley (EP), Tony Moodley (Border) and Frans van Zyl (SC).
