Events committee member Meg Faure said: "Knysna put on its best for the 13 teams that competed in the event sponsored by Standard Bank Private Clients. Not only was the view and location spectacular, but this year, the weather played ball too." Knysna's deputy mayor Esme Edge, Francois Pienaar (chairman of Western Cape Rowing), Sean Kerr (president of RowSA) and Dave King (director at Standard Bank Private Clients) attended the event to experience the competition and camaraderie between the rowing schoolboys and schoolgirls.
Everybody was welcomed by Edge. She wished the rowers good luck for their race. Francois Pienaar acknowledged the great commitment of the rowers and spoke of rowing as the ultimate team event.
"In all, the event is a highlight on the coastal rowing calendar. Western Cape Rowing has expressed their deep gratitude to the community of Knysna and most specifically the neighbours in the idyllic Belvidere Estate for welcoming us once again to your shores," said Faure.
Teams that competed in this year's Midway Classic Rowing Regatta included Somerset College, Clarendon Girls High School, Peninsula Girls Rowing Club, Zwartkops Rowing Club, Selborne College, Grahamstown St Andrews College, Nemato Rowing Club, Rondebosch Boys High School, South African College School, Bishops Diocesan College, Grey High School, Port Elizabeth Rowing Club and Alfred Rowing Club.
