A good southwesterly wind prevailed, producing shifty, gusty conditions, although a bit challenging for novices.
The senior fleet was sailing in the second round for the Commodores Trophy. In the sometimes planing conditions, the Fireball of David Laing and Mark Dee to used its spinnaker to good effect to pull away from the chasing pack of Lasers.
Their race position in the first race was enhanced when a number of the Lasers rounded the incorrect leeward mark, being disqualified as a result.
However, in this race, the Laser Radial of John Marc Olivier was still able to finish close enough to finish in first position, with the Fireball in second place.
Things were more orderly in the second race. This time the Laing Fireball was able to extend sufficiently to be able to win both on line honours and on handicap.
Malcolm Osborne was the first Laser to finish closely followed by Henry Paine. But John Marc, just behind, was close enough to get second place on handicap.
The third race proceeded in a similar fashion.
Osborne was in the lead, but was delayed due to a collision with an Optimist, allowing Paine to gain the lead which he held to the end. Osborne was just able to pip Olivier over the line after slowly catching up.
On handicap however, first place went to Paine, ahead of Olivier and Osborne. These Lasers were able to demote the Fireball to 4th place on handicap. Overall for the Commodores Trophy, the winner is John Marc Oli-
vier ahead of David Laing.
In the junior fleet, clear ahead in all three races was the Laser 4.7 of Nathan Page with Danielle de Wet following on her Tera Pro. Then came the Optimists, lead by Georgou Divaris, ahead of James Vonk, Chris Kennedy and Kirstie Gehrung.
On class handicap scoring Divaris won all three races with Nathan Page consistently second. Jedd Page on Tera Sport was third in the first race, but De Wet was in this place in the other two races.

Newcomers to the GLYC Laser fleet Ralph Jones and Mandy Lombard.
