PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Young cyclists in Kwanokuthula will be tackling mountain bike trails on brand new wheels thanks to a partnership between two organisations that led to the distribution of 180 mountain bikes in this community on the outskirts of Plettenberg Bay.
On Friday 28 February, the annual Rainmaker RollerCoaster cycling event – a seven-day gravel adventure race that sees riders cover about 500km across the Western Cape – came to an end at Murray High School in Kwanokuthula.
This milestone was celebrated by distributing 180 bicycles in the area. The donation was made possible through the support of the Rainmaker RollerCoaster's official charity, The Buffalo Foundation, and distributed in the Kwanoluthula as the community is home to the Kwano Cycling Academy – one of the charity's beneficiaries.
Organisers HotChillee, which has specialised in organising endurance cycling holidays since 2004, said the celebration was also a result of securing a two-year sponsorship with London-based digital transformation specialist.
Sven Thiele, founder of HotChillee, said since their formal partnership, they had been talking about major transformations within "our greater community".
Organisers and participants of the annual Rainmaker RollerCoaster mountain bike event handed over 180 bicycles when they arrived at the finish line of the event at Murray High School in Kwanokuthula, Plettenberg Bay.
Over and above experiencing the joy of handing over the bicycles to very happy recipients, participants in the event not only enjoyed the beauty of the Western Cape from the saddle, but also camped on guest farms, game farms and bush camps along the 500km route, spending the week getting up close and personal with some of the area's wildlife.
This year, riders could enter to take part as an individual or in pairs. At the end of the week they enjoyed a lovely braai in Plett after their wheels rolled over the finish line.
