KNYSNA NEWS - Macx Academy's dancers took street dancing to the centre stage at the recent 45th annual Nelson Mandela Bay Dance Festival.
Bringing their A game, the academy's 14 registered acts secured 11 gold awards (85%-100%) and three silver awards (70%-84%) in the junior novice category.
The group not only earned gold for their performance, but also received a personal adjudicated invitation to perform at the prestigious gala evening.
They further took home the special award for the overall best group performance of the entire festival.
The solo performers also impressed. Duncan Redfern, Tristan Viljoen and Olivia Taljaard earned silver, while Lithetha Vonja, Candice Hunda, Layla van der Merwe, Isabella Arendse, Morgan Rivers and Kelsey Leander received gold.
Kelsey was also invited to perform at the gala evening and won the overall novice senior rising star award. Current world champion duet Fiah-Bella Fredericks and Chioma Tagbo, who recently returned from Disney after representing South Africa, also won gold.
The academy's senior novice group achieved an overall mark of 86%, earning another gold award. According to the academy, the dancers have never trained at private studios, yet compete against some of the best.
Saint Savant, the non-profitable organisation behind the academy, continues investing in resources, training and youth empowerment while creating opportunities for young dancers to develop their talents and compete with integrity.
