KNYSNA HOCKEY NEWS – Despite coming up against their toughest opposition yet, Old Oaks Knysna Hockey Club's men's and ladies teams managed to continue their unbeaten starts to the season.
Both teams travelled to George for the third round of the 2021 Eden Senior Hockey League season on Saturday 22 May. With both games to be played at the York High School astro turf, the men's and ladies teams came up against the two sides from Quarry.
The men's game kicked off the weekend's action with the early match, starting at 14:00. Quarry got off to the better start, managing to take the lead in the first seven minutes through a penalty corner.
Marc van Staden levelled proceedings for Old Oaks five minutes later. Old Oaks led for the first time through a second-quarter goal by Jacques Potgieter before Quarry levelled up the score at 2-2.

The third quarter would be the deciding phase in the game, with James Chauncey and Darren Kamfer hitting the backboard for Old Oaks, giving them a 4-2 lead. The fourth quarter remained goalless, handing the Knysna side the win.

Old Oaks' men's team is top of the league table on nine points with Quarry 2 (second), Crusaders 2 (third), and Leopards (fourth), all on six points.
It was the ladies' turn on the turf at 15:30 and Old Oaks took an early lead with a goal by Charné de Wet in the first two minutes.
The rest of the game was not so easy for Old Oaks however, as the ladies from Quarry stood their ground on home turf and battled hard against the Knysna ladies. Donné de Wet scored for Old Oaks in the second quarter to send the game into half-time on 2-0 to Old Oaks.

Charné scored her second goal of the game and seventh of the season to hand Old Oaks a 3-0 lead at the end of the third quarter. As with the men's game, the final quarter remained goalless, letting Old Oaks emerge 3-0 victors.
The Old Oaks ladies are yet to concede a goal this season and remain unbeaten at the top of the log on nine points, ahead of Leopards (second) on six points and Crusaders (third) on four points.
Old Oaks' ladies will face Crusaders Ladies 2 this weekend with the men's team taking on Leopards in a battle for top of the table.
