PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The thudding of the hooves of Polo ponies is again the attraction for the Genesis Cup 10 and four-goal competition, being held from yesterday to 4 December at the Rhone Hill Polo Club in Plettenberg Bay.
It is the third time the Genesis Cup is being held at Rhone Hill, which was started by Irishman Patrick Heffron. Four teams are competing in the 4-goal competition (based on handicaps) and a 10-goal competition.
Start of year-end season
The Genesis Cup sees the start of Plett's year-end Polo spectacular season that leads up to the Plett Polo international festival at Plett Polo at Kurland.
Rhone Hill's facilities and fields, impeccably prepared by the Rhone Hill team, provide an ideal setting for the various polo matches played over the season. This well-maintained environment plays a significant role in the performance levels, allowing both players and ponies to showcase their best abilities.
'Family affair'
During the Genesis Cup 4-goal competition a number of Spilburys are also making it a "family affair": Sipho, Joss and Harry in the Alistair team, and Terence, Charlie and Luke in the RR team.
There are four teams competing in the 10-goal competition and among the top names are Chris Lund, Shaun Brokensha and Dirk van Reenen. An international flavour will also be added by Argentinian Diego Casilli.
