KNYSNA NEWS - On Thursday 14 March, Buco Knysna hosted their seventh annual Corporate Bowls Day at the ever-friendly and eager Knysna Bowls Club.
It was an action-packed day attended by some 90 customers and 50-odd suppliers and other industry professionals.
The event started off with a flurry of phone calls from people desperate to play but had left it too late to confirm a place in a team. Players started arriving around 08:30 and soon there was the usual banter and challenges being thrown down between the various construction companies in Knysna. The guests were welcomed with tea and coffee during registration and once all the teams were registered, the games started at around 10:30.
No need to know the game
All three greens were full and soon everyone was concentrating on how best to beat their opponents. The beauty about this format of hosting a corporate bowls day is the simplicity of it all. There is no need to know how to play the game, the rules are carefully explained and there are club members on hand to assist those who need a little coaching along the way.
You don't need to bring your own playing equipment either as this is kindly supplied by the bowls club. Anyone can play plus the networking opportunity that comes with playing these games near each other is enormous, says Buco Knysna store operator Mike Williams.
It's a fun-filled day yet remains fiercely competitive too, he says. "You can't have it any other way in our industry."
Feast of a time
Lunchtime arrived and Buco Knysna did not disappoint with their beautifully laid-out feast of delicious cold finger food. There were lots to eat and drink throughout the day.
The day's play finished around 17:00, followed by the prize-giving and thereafter the guests were treated to a spit braai and all the trimmings.
It was a very successful day which resulted in a fun way for the construction industry to take a day away from the office or site and engage with each other on a different level. Some even made new friends along the way.
Williams would like to thank his customers for their loyal support, Knysna Bowls Club for its willingness to go the extra mile, the staff of Buco Knysna who assisted with the event in various ways and, finally, Sarah Ellis, Sebastian Olifant and Nico Botes who collectively put this day together. Your efforts are very much appreciated. See you all next year.
