GEORGE NEWS - The George Bowls Club will host a Barefoot Bowls Day on 27 April to set a new Guinness World Record and raise funds for Cansa and Disability Bowls South Africa.
The Guinness Record attempt will see players all over South Africa aiming to bowl the most balls in one hour.
Barefoot bowls does not mean that you need to take your shoes off, but more the "foot loose and fancy free" approach to the game that sees a younger gene-ration - who enjoy a beer and a braai and "less waiting around" - to get into this fun game.
Bowling is believed to date back to the thirteenth century in Britain. It is relatively easy for newcomers and the fact that it's a non-contact game and requires little physical effort, makes it accessible for everyone.
The Cancer Association of South Africa celebrates its 80th Anniversary this year and aims to raise awareness and funds to assist those living with cancer as well as doing further research into this disease.
A donation of R20 per participant is requested. Visit www.barefootbowls.co.za or call the Cansa office at 044 874 4824 for more information.
