KNYSNA NEWS - The Sidwell Roman School of Ballet delivered a standout performance at the recent annual Friendly City Dance Festival, held at the Mandela Bay Theatre Complex in Gqeberha.
Under the guidance of teachers Courtney-Drew Meyer and Sidwell Roman, 26 dedicated pupils took to the stage with an impressive 78 performances across ballet, contemporary, modern, and freestyle genres over four action-packed days.
The festival was adjudicated by judges Monique McCord and Kitty Phetla.
The studio achieved exceptional results, proudly bringing home a total of two bronze, 27 silver, 31 gold, and 18 double gold medals.
Among the individual standouts:
Cayden Bean was crowned ballet, modern, and national winner in the boys 17-18 category and placed as runner-up in the ballet championship.
Jaden Morton emerged as both ballet and national winner in the boys 13-14 section and also finished as runner-up in his ballet championship.
Christina Jonsson took top honours in the girls 11-12 category, winning both ballet and national titles.
Her younger sister, Gabriella Jonsson, won the girls 9-10 ballet section and received the coveted Little Cherub Award for "Most Promising Junior in Any Genre".
A further highlight came with Echoes of Silence, choreographed by Courtney-Drew and Tiffany Meyer, which won Best Ensemble for Ballet.
Both teachers expressed pride in their dancers and appreciation to the parents for their support ranging from countless hours of rehearsal to enthusiastic cheers in the theatre.
