Cameroon will face Ivory Coast in the quarterfinals on Saturday while DR Congo will play hosts Rwanda.
“We were aware of what DR Congo was capable of doing after observing their previous two games. They had scored seven goals in the previous two games and our plan was to keep a clean sheet. My team played a good game and we won it,” said Ndtoungou.
“I would simply say that we were very well prepared for the game. Having good performance against the toughest team in our group and drawing with Ethiopia confirms the uncertainties in football. We prepared for this game just like any other match.
“The next match against Cote d’Ivoire is the knockout stage, and we don’t have any option than to win and qualify for the semifinals.”
Cameroon captain Hugo Patrick Nyame said he was satisfied with the performance.
“We have conceded just a goal in three games and it is good. We did all that it takes to be in the next round and hope to keep the momentum to go further in the competition.
DR Congo Head Coach Florent Ibenge was naturally upset at the loss.
“I really have bad feelings. The defence played badly. They failed to stop the Cameroonians, and the midfielders and strikers didn’t play well. We didn’t want to take risks because we had some players with cautions from the previous matches.
