PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Oriented Birds missed the perfect opportunity to advance in the provincial league when they lost 1-0 against Maties FC in a tough Safa Western Cape ABC Motsepe League encounter on Friday 14 March in Stellenbosch.
In the first leg, played on Saturday 9 November 2024 at Plett's Kwanokuthula Stadium, Oriented Birds defeated Maties 4-1.
Playoff spot
With 28 points, the Birds are fighting their way up the log to secure a playoff spot.
The Birds have played 15 fixtures, winning eight, drawing four, and losing three.
The Cape Winelands Region's Maties are fighting for a top-five position, earning 21 points from 14 games.
At the start of the Birds' game against Maties, both teams looked very sharp on the ball.
The home side displayed great touches on the ball, looking for scoring chances.
The Birds players pushed virtually every ball up front, looking for an opening goal, but it was not easy for them to break through the Maties' back line.
Birds seek support
Maties managed to score, resulting in the Birds losing vital points.
The chairman of Oriented Birds, Zitho Lawrence Tyontwana, said the club was in need of support from local businesses.
He said the team travelled a lot, and support from businesses would give the team a boost in their campaign in the provincial league.
