PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The Boni’s Ocean Safaris six-a-side cricket team from Plettenberg Bay, recently crowned the Garden Route Sixes Champions of 2024, are now preparing for their next big challenge; the prestigious Cape Town Sixes tournament.
The event will take place from 22 to 23 March at the Western Province Cricket Club in Rondebosch.
New name
Under the leadership of captain John Koopman, the team have made a name for themselves with impressive performances.
Following being crowned champions, the team have adopted a new name, Marcellos Shuttles, thanks to a sponsorship agreement with Marcello Shuttle Services.
This partnership will also provide the team with the transport needed to get to Cape Town for the tournament.
"We are incredibly grateful to Marcello Shuttle Services for their support in getting us to Cape Town," said Koopman.
"It's a huge step forward for our team, and we couldn't be more excited to represent not just our town but also our sponsors and the community at large."
Sponsorships
In addition to Marcello Shuttle Services, the team has received continued backing from several key sponsors, including Studio Designs, Robert Boni’s Architects, and Opihi Builders.
The team also appreciates the support of local community members Peter and Cronin Jantjies from Kranshoek, whose contribution has been vital in ensuring the team’s success.
As the team prepares for the upcoming tournament, captain Koopman expressed deep gratitude for the collective efforts that have made this journey possible.
“It’s not just about the game; it’s about the community behind us. Without the support of our sponsors and community members, this would not be possible. We are thrilled to be heading to Cape Town with their backing.”
Departure
The Marcellos Shuttles team will depart for Cape Town on 21 March.
For those interested in supporting the team’s journey, Koopman invites contributions and offers his contact details for anyone wishing to contribute or get involved. He can be reached at 071 649 6810 or via email at koopmanjohn03@gmail.com
