KNYSNA NEWS - Group H in the SWD Cricket T20 Competition, the group that includes all Knysna/Plettenberg Bay teams, wrapped up last weekend with four games played between the two towns.
The second round of fixtures for Group H was split between Saturday and Sunday, 6 and 7 November, with three games to be played on Saturday at Loerie Park in Knysna and one at the New Horizons Sports Grounds in Plett.
The Kranshoek Dolphins and Pirates United were the first two teams to face off on Saturday.
Pirates United vs Kranshoek Dolphins
The side from Kranshoek batted first and put on a decent display with the bat. Dolphins' Wayne Oraai top-scored for his side with a gritty 34 runs to steer them to 103-7 in their 20 overs. Darryl Sigula was Pirates' top bowler with two wickets for 10 runs in his four overs.
Bar eventual top-scorer Errol Martin (47 runs), Pirates struggled to get going. This, coupled with disciplined death-bowling, saw Pirates bowled out for 98, handing the Dolphins a five-run win. Kevin Bouers was the Dolphins' best bowler with two wickets for seven runs in four overs.
Kranshoek Dolphins vs Knysna Cavaliers
It was a double-header day for the Dolphins and the Cavaliers batted first. This immediately worked in the Dolphins' favour as they reduced the Cavaliers to 16-6. Jaden Brotherton (20 runs not out) and Francois Bonthuys (38 runs not out) rescued the Cavaliers' innings and saw them reach 78-6 in 20 overs.
Brouers was again Dolphins' best bowler and claimed three wickets for only six runs in his four overs.

Tough batting conditions coupled with measured Cavaliers bowling meant the Dolphins' run chase never got going.
Shanwell Martin top-scored for the Dolphins with a defiant 10 runs, but his side was ultimately bowled out for 41, handing the Cavaliers a 37-run win. Quinton Visagie was the Cavaliers' best bowler with figures of four wickets for eight runs in his four overs.
The win sees Cavaliers finish top of the group and progress to the quarter-finals.
Divan Luiters was Pioneers' best bowler on Sunday.
Pirates United vs Plett Pioneers
The final game of the day saw the Plett side bat first. Aided by some cameo performances up and down the order, top-scorer Eden Tarentaal (38 runs) helped see Pioneers to 97-7 in 20 overs. Pirates' best bowler was Justino Koopman with two wickets for 14 runs in three overs.
Pirates faced a tough task in their chase, with the light fading more and more as their innings went on. Almost every batsman contributed to the chase, but Jody de Koker (18 runs) was top scorer as they reached the target of 98 with five wickets to spare for the win. Pioneers' best bowler was Mbuyiseli Malanga with three wickets for 19 runs in four overs.

Plett Pioneers vs Kranshoek Dolphins
The only game on Sunday was the Plett rivalry and Pioneers batted first again. Tarentaal (29 runs) was their top performer with the bat once more and, with contributions from the whole team, Pioneers scored 128-9 in 20 overs. For the third game in a row, Brouers was the Dolphins' best bowler with two wickets for 14 runs in four overs.
This time round Pioneers would defend their total as the Dolphins were unable to get their chase off the ground. Wayne Oraai top-scored with 27, but his side was bowled out for 53, giving Pioneers a 75-run win. Divan Luiters was Pioneers' best bowler with an impressive five wickets for seven runs in four overs.
