CRICKET NEWS - The Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers retained the Daisy Business Solutions floating trophy on Friday 27 January when they won the annual friendship challenge against the SWD Eagles by 57 runs.
The Badgers, who batted first, posted 217/7 in their allotted 20 overs. André Malan (37), Marcello Piedt (26) and Jean du Plessis (54) excelled with the bat while Clement Lewis (2/55) and Deon Carstens (3/17) were the pick of the bowlers for the Eagles.
The Eagles put up a strong fight and responded with 160/8 (20 overs). Adriaan van der Bank impressed with an innings of 71. He received support from JP Duvenage (22). Hanno Kotze (2/4), Jean du Plessis (2/18), Marcello Piedt (2/20) and Jarred Jardine (2/11) each bagged two wickets.
Ottniel Baartman, a former SWD cricketer who now plays for the Sunrises Eastern Cape in the SA20 competition, was the guest for the day. He also officiated in the prize-giving ceremony.
