KNYSNA NEWS - The second Urban X Obstacle and Trail Run was held at Blackwaters River Lodge this past weekend, with participants tackling a new course on the morning of Sunday
6 December.
The event was the second of three Urban X races at Blackwaters. The first race took place on Sunday 1 November with a packed starting roster that saw roughly 300 participants tackle the 10-obstacle, 3km-long course.
For the second race, far fewer participants pitched up, and the organiser, Coyote Events, attributed the reduction in numbers to concerns surrounding Covid-19.
In spite of the virus, just under 100 participants arrived to test their mettle. The start of the race was again staggered, so as to allow for sufficient adherence to Covid-19 protocols, with the first group setting off at 09:30 and the final group at 09:50.
Coyote Events had set up a new course for participants that, instead of snaking through the surrounding Goukamma forests, made its way through some of the farms.

Various new obstacles such as palette hurdles, a rope maze and tyre carrying were introduced, plus a cargo net that had to be traversed to get out of the Goukamma River - only to be met by a helping of powdered paint in the face.
Jay Jay Ndukwana was one of the lead participants once again.
After the race, participants stretched out on the lawns at Blackwaters while enjoying a Sunday coffee and hearing out the lucky draw winners.
The third and final Urban X Obstacle and Trail Run will be held at Blackwaters in just under a month, on Sunday 3 January.
The rope maze offered an interesting new obstacle for participants.
