KNYSNA NEWS - The Comrades Marathon is a gruelling 90km road race run by crazy people – or that's what most people think, except for the almost 20 000 participants who took part in the 2018 edition of the almost 100-year-old race.
This year the race was a “down run”, starting at the city hall in Pietermaritzburg and finishing in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday 10 June.
South African Bongumusa Mthembu won the men's division in an incredible time of 05:26:44, while the women's division was this year also won by a South African, Ann Ashworth, finishing in 06:10:04.
A group of 22 Knysna crazies, running under the banner of the Knysna Marathon Club (KMC), also took part this year and came back with some excellent results.
KMC spokesperson Lehani Scholtz says the club is extremely proud of "each and every one of them".
"We wish to congratulate our three novice runners Melikhaya Msizi, who finished in an awesome time of 07:07:51 earning himself a silver medal; Warren Peterson who finished shortly after him in a great time of 07:53:18, which secured him a Bill Rowan medal; and Zandisile Tshem who finished in a time of 11:26:00," says Scholtz.
Sharnon Brown earned herself a permanent number for finishing her 10th Comrades in a time of 11:41:06.
