PROPERTY NEWS - Gas installations over 38kg require a George Municipality Certificate for Flammable Substances.
Following an article regarding residential gas installations in the property insert of the George Herald, Oudtshoorn Courant, Mossel Bay Advertiser, Knysna-Plett Herald and South-Cape Forum on 5 September, the George Municipality highlights the stipulations of Chapter 8 of the George Municipality by-law on Community Safety for gas installations of over 38kg.
Please note that a certificate of conformity (COC) issued by the gas installer is not sufficient for gas installations of over 38kg.
The owner or responsible person may not store flammable gas of more than 38kg, or flammable fluid in a danger group of more than 200 litres, without obtaining a Certificate for Flammable Substances from the George Municipality Fire Department in advance.
It should be noted that failure to have this certificate could mean insurance companies not paying out for damage and loss following gas fires.
Should you be uncertain of the requirements regarding gas installations, please contact the George Fire Department on 044 801 6300 during office hours.
